V-Soft Consulting is currently seeking a Sr. Software Developer for our premier client in Madison, Wisconsin. This is a full-time, direct hire position in the financial services industry.

• Microsoft Visual Studio
• T-SQL (Microsoft SQL Server) / SQL Server Management Studio
• Applicable to Line-of-Business Administration Systems (LOB)
  • Cobol Programming Language
  • CA 2E (SYNON), System IBM commands, Query, utilities, command language (CL).  
  • SSIS / SSRS package development
• Applicable to Enterprise Business Systems (ENT)
  • Microsoft .NET
  • C#, SQL, Javascript
  • Object-Oriented Design and Development
  • SOA, preferred
  • Web Services, preferred
  • Sencha ExtJs, or other Javascript Client-Side Libraries, preferred
  • Java / J2EE

Education and Experience » 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, or other related field
• 6 years Web development utilizing Javascript framework for UI and communications
• 5 years COBOL experience and/or AS400/CA 2E development tools, preferably in life insurance applications
• 4 years .NET and C# development
• 4 years Microsoft SQL Server tools and management (T-SQL)
• ID3 and/or LifePRO Administration System and insurance industry experience preferred
• Experience in Agile methodology (Scrum and/or Kanban, Test Driven Development) preferred

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

Job Responsibilities » 

• Produce software designs with input from the stakeholders’ formulate software specifications and prototypes
• Provide progress reports and work estimates for implementation and validation
• Collaborate with other developers to transform software designs and specifications into high-functioning, well-designed, testable and efficient code in the appropriate computer language
• Use testing results from system analysts to identify sources of defects and remedy any issues in the software
• Perform routine software maintenance
• Perform upgrades to make software and systems more secure and efficient, and to adapt them to any new requirements
• Write and maintain technical documentation to describe software development, logic, coding, testing, changes, history and corrections
• Participate in and perform code/design reviews; strive for continuous improvement of code quality and development practices
• Build and implement test automation to validate new and existing code
• Assist in the maintenance of business applications
• Anticipate system/application challenges and proposes solutions; recommend improvements to existing software as necessary
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues for both internal and third-party business applications
• Assist with issue identification, investigation, and resolution process of support incidents
• Provide off-hours support of scheduled production processing
• Collaborate with the team and business areas to develop, coordinate and execute plans to ensure successful acquisition [excludes: -related] projects
• Participate in efforts to convert and implement merged or acquired business
• Share ownership of the solution deployment, testing, quality, monitoring and operational excellence with the rest of the agile team
• Participate in regular team and stakeholder meetings
• Continually develop skill-sets and abilities to keep them relevant, current and applicable to the company’s current and future needs
• Follow software development and quality assurance best practices and governance
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed
