Technical Writer / Proposal Writer

Primary Location – Louisville, Kentucky

 

V-Soft is hiring! We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Writer / Proposal Writer to join the V-Soft Proposal Team in our Louisville headquartered office. This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Proposal Manager.

As the Proposal Writer, you will be responsible for coordinating, writing and developing compliant and persuasive winning proposals used to capture new business opportunities in both public and private sectors. Our ideal Proposal Writer will be a self-starter and able to carry out assignments with limited oversight in a timely manner. Our ideal Proposal Writer will demonstrate exemplary organizational, communication, critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills.

This position is ideal for a candidate that loves to own large, important projects with a lot of responsibility. It demands excellent organizational skills as well as excellent writing and proofreading skills.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Education and Experience »

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Journalism, English, Writing, Communications or an IT-related field, or an Associate’s Degree combined with 5 years of experience
    • Prior Military experience is a plus and may be considered in lieu of educational requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of proposal writing experience (5 years of experience as a Technical Writer in the IT sector or for a staffing firm (public or private) may qualify in lieu of proposal writing experience)
  • Minimum 2 years of proposal development experience
  • Minimum 2 years of document editing experience
  • A list/portfolio of past proposals worked on and results is desired

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities »

  • Knowledge of RFx processes pertaining to U.S. Government public sector opportunities is desired
  • Knowledge of RFx processes pertaining to Canadian Government public sector opportunities is desired
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government contracting processes is desired
  • Knowledge and experience using MS Visio is desired
  • Intermediate skills in MS Word (expert level desired), MS Excel and Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF creation/editing tool)
  • Detail-oriented, particularly as it relates to grammar and punctuation
  • Superior time management skills and strong organization skills
  • Exceptional English written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical writing skills and research skills
  • Familiarity with IT terminology
  • Initiative to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize projects and time requirements to meet deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of normal working hours, as needed
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment and meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to write persuasively and articulately
  • Willingness to assist multiple teams in other areas of writing, as needed

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Job Responsibilities »

  • Read and review proposal requests
  • Create, organize and maintain, proposal content, records and documentation
  • Determine proposal requirements and coordinate with other departments for input
  • Collaborate with other professionals to develop winning strategies
  • Conduct research if needed on RFP technical/functional areas to gain better understanding of areas to be addressed and responded to
  • Prepare matrices, outlines and schedules
  • Solicit and compile team questions; monitor questions, answer responses, and distribute to proposal team and partnering firms
  • Develop technical responses to requests to meet RFx requirements
  • Formulate graphics
  • Ensure writing is compliant with proposal criteria and instructions
  • Facilitate compliance review of proposals for accuracy, completeness per RFx requirements
  • Integrate review comments from multiple sources into the proposal, ensuring page count and consistency throughout
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects with competing deadlines
  • Assist in the development of strategy, messaging and materials for presentations and project meetings
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers and management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
